The internet is already making fun of Apple’s new iPhone duo
Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo. The new device has attracted enormous attention, but not all of it has been positive. Within hours of its unveiling, social media users began posting jokes, memes and sarcastic comments about Apple’s newest iPhone.
Mocking new iPhones has almost become an annual tradition. Whenever Apple introduces a new generation, the internet quickly turns its attention to the design, price, naming and features. This year, however, Apple has given users an especially easy target: its first-ever foldable iPhone.
Two iPhones Put Together?
The biggest source of jokes is the phone’s basic concept. The iPhone Duo can be opened to reveal a much larger internal display, while the device works as a conventional smartphone when folded. Apple is essentially combining the portability of a phone with a much larger screen in a single device.
The internet has naturally found a humorous way to describe the idea. Some users joked that the Duo looks like someone simply took two older iPhones and joined them together.
Images and mock tutorials quickly appeared online showing how someone could supposedly create their own version of the device using two older phones and some simple materials. The jokes are clearly exaggerated, but they highlight how unusual the design looks compared with traditional iPhones.
The Name Has Become a Joke Too
The name “Duo” has also attracted attention.
After years of speculation about Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the company ultimately chose a short and simple name. That decision immediately became another opportunity for online humor.
Users have played with the idea that “Duo” simply refers to having two iPhones in one device. Others have used the name as a starting point for memes and comparisons with existing foldable smartphones.
Apple’s naming choice makes sense from a product perspective. The device effectively offers two display experiences: a conventional outer screen and a much larger internal panel when unfolded.
The Price Gives Critics Another Target
The other major topic surrounding the iPhone Duo is its price.
Apple has positioned the device as a premium product, and the most expensive configuration comes close to the equivalent of $3,000 in some markets. In the Czech Republic, the top version approaches the 100,000-koruna mark.
That price has naturally generated plenty of discussion online. Some people question whether the larger foldable display justifies such a significant premium over conventional smartphones.
For others, the price is simply part of the appeal. Apple’s most expensive products have traditionally attracted customers who are willing to pay extra for design, technology and brand prestige.
Apple Is Once Again Dominating the Conversation
Despite all the jokes, the reaction demonstrates Apple’s ability to generate enormous attention around a new product.
The company is entering a market where competitors such as Samsung and Huawei have already released several generations of foldable smartphones. Apple therefore has to convince consumers that its approach offers something worth paying a premium for.
Whether the iPhone Duo ultimately becomes a mainstream success remains to be seen. But one thing is already clear: Apple’s first foldable iPhone has become one of the biggest technology talking points of the moment.
And if the reaction on social media is anything to go by, the internet is going to have plenty more jokes ready for Apple’s latest creation.
