Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv diverted after serious cockpit incident
A Flydubai passenger plane traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a serious incident involving members of the flight crew. The aircraft landed safely in Tabuk, while authorities began investigating what happened inside the cockpit.
The incident has raised significant security concerns in Israel. Initial reports suggested a possible hijacking, while later information indicated that one of the pilots may have attacked his colleague and attempted to interfere with the aircraft’s controls.
Emergency situation during the flight
The flight, identified as FZ1073, departed from Dubai and was heading toward Tel Aviv. During the journey, the aircraft reportedly changed its altitude and activated emergency procedures.
The unusual behavior of the plane prompted concerns that something was seriously wrong on board. Israeli authorities reportedly responded by sending fighter jets to monitor the aircraft as the situation developed.
The crew eventually managed to regain control and divert the aircraft toward Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.
Passengers reportedly helped the crew
According to accounts cited by media outlets, a physical confrontation took place inside the cockpit. One of the pilots was reportedly injured during the incident, with some reports mentioning a knife.
People inside the aircraft intervened to stop the attacker. Among those who reportedly helped were passengers, including individuals with aviation experience. However, some of these details have not yet been independently confirmed.
Both pilots were reportedly taken to hospital after the aircraft landed. There were no reports of passenger deaths.
Israel investigates possible terrorist motive
The incident has also triggered a security investigation in Israel. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said initial information raised the possibility that the incident could have been connected to a jihadist terrorist attack.
Authorities are examining whether the pilot involved in the confrontation deliberately intended to cause the aircraft to crash.
At this stage, however, the exact motive has not been conclusively established. Investigators are expected to examine the actions of the crew, cockpit recordings and statements from passengers and other witnesses before drawing final conclusions.
Flydubai has confirmed that an incident involving members of the crew occurred and that the aircraft landed safely in Saudi Arabia.
Passengers were left in Tabuk
After the emergency landing, Flydubai had to arrange alternative transportation for the passengers who had been traveling to Israel.
The aircraft remained in Saudi Arabia while authorities dealt with the incident and began gathering evidence.
The case is being investigated by the relevant Saudi and Israeli authorities. The final explanation will depend on the results of those investigations, particularly the evidence concerning what happened inside the cockpit and why the situation escalated.
For now, the most significant fact is that the aircraft reached the ground safely and all passengers survived the incident.
